30 Days of Thankful: 2013

Last year, I participated in Prudence’s 30 Thankful Days. It was a month of restraint. I stopped myself from getting tied up in my stress and whatever bit of negative that I was so used to complaining about. Though not easy, I was reminded every single day to make a choice. It was a month where I forced myself to choose differently. See life in light of everything that I had to be thankful for. It was beneficial. To both my soul, and my overall perspective in life. I would even dare to say that it changed me. I was buried deep in motherhood woes (sleep/exhaustion/etc. etc.), and deciding to do this project last year was a game changer. It allowed for me to see the reward that was hidden in the little things. The tiny moments. The very small, seemingly insignificant things.

I am excited to join in again this year, and it starts TOMORROW.

Let’s do this.

Stuff I am Loving: Bare Minerals Rave

I’ve tried a million foundations in my lifetime. Maybe not a million, but certainly a lot. Clinique, MAC, Cargo, then after never feeling 100% happy, I made the silly decision of buying a cheap Revlon Colorstay foundation. To be honest, the Revlon was actually a better fit than the others that I spent more than twice as much on, but it was heavy. My complexion has struggled because of it.

However, I promised myself that after my recent bottle ran out, I’d invest in something that I enjoyed putting on my face. I’d heard good things about Bare Minerals, but was hesitant about moving from a liquid to a pressed powder. My friend Denise has used it for a couple years, and said it was amazing, but still, I felt nervous.

So, when my friend Stacey visited this past week from Colorado, I told her I needed her to come with me and explain her successes with Bare Minerals, and help me take the plunge. We went to Sephora (with all of the babies in tow), and were educated by a girl who had flawless makeup, and fabulous attitude. She also thought that our kids were miniature models, so that helped too. Anyway, I went for it. And, I don’t think I’ll ever look back.

I bought the brightening primer, and the pressed powder along with one of the full coverage brushes. I’m on Day 4 or 5 of using it, and not only has my morning makeup routine been cut in half in terms of time, but my face feels AMAZING. Light. Fresh. Almost like its naked. And, blemishes are scarce, for the first time since I was pregnant with Special K.

My recommendation is to convert.

Seriously. Just do it.

I don’t know if there is a face out there that wouldn’t fall in love with it.

Any other facial products that I’ve been missing out on? I’m in a state of open mind.

Is it Too Early to Talk about Christmas?

Gosh, I hope not.

Last year, after Christmas, we bought a new Christmas tree. At the time, I was sort of ragey about it. I wanted the new tree BEFORE Christmas, and buying it after felt like a waste of money at the time, because why were we buying something that we wouldn’t be using for another 365 days? But, I went along with it, because I knew it was the only way I would get a new tree, and now, THE TIME HAS COME, MY FRIENDS.

Yes, it is still October, but November is just around the corner, and I like my tree up for Thanksgiving. I did it last year, and I will do it again this year. Christmas is just too good for the spirit to only be around for 30 days. And so, I am now perusing for ornaments and things, because we had just enough for our silly, little, 3 foot tree, and this new tree is like 7 feet if I remember correctly. We also have a real fireplace this year because last year we were in an apartment. I’m trying to figure out a way to convince Bryant to climb on the roof and hang a ridiculous amount of Christmas lights too. I don’t think he’ll do it, but maybe if I bribe him with cookies and whiskey.

Here is what I’m loving:

These Menagerie Ornaments from Land of Nod (Aren’t they darling? With like, some burlap ball ornaments too? I feel like Threshold will have some Burlap ornaments).

These Simple Lace Stockings from Land of Nod (I can put a tooth brush, and Annie’s fruit snacks inside. Kinsey will LOVE it).

Pebble Owl Ornaments from Crate & Barrel (Woodland Creatures seem to be my theme)

Fox Ornaments from Crate and Barrel (LOOK AT EM’!)

Aren’t these pretty too? Mercury Glass Ball Ornaments from PB
